 Summary: This and the next chapter depart from the general treatment of Monte Carlo of the previous chapters by focusing on aspects of how neutrons and gamma rays (photons) migrate through matter. In this chapter, the fundamentals of how these neutral particles interact with matter and how their intensity varies in space, energy, and direction are presented. Concepts of directions and solid angles, particle density, flux density, current vector, interaction coefficients, microscopic cross sections, and scattering coefficients are considered.
